Outreach and Engagement
An integral part of Heritage as Placemaking is the engagement with wider audiences and the process of reaching out beyond the traditional academic scope of publications and conferences. Through co-curated engagement projects, HaP connects with a diverse public, with research partners beyond academia, and with local organizations and communities. These outreach partners share HaPs topical interests and theoretical orientation in heritage solidarities and placemaking.
Outreach and engagement partnerships aim to:
…enrich the critical insights of our research projects by creating opportunities for new partnerships and networks related to heritage solidarity and placemaking.
…create opportunities for collaboration and co-curation with partners beyond academia to enable community-led legacies in partnership with our projects, focusing on themes such as heritage bureaucracy, commoning, erasure and decolonization.
…enhance the impact of HaP through widening audiences, with an emphasis on making our core theoretical tenets accessible, promoting inclusive heritage, and engaging with current societal issues.

At the outset of the HaP project, funding was set aside for outreach initiatives. These funds are available both to our research team and to external organizations and individuals who partner with us, as well as to those who are doing relevant work that meets our outreach and engagement goals. Groups currently underrepresented in the heritage discourse are particularly encouraged to apply.
